Delete your account

You can delete your Cookara account and all associated data (including your saved recipes) either in the app or by email.

In the app

  1. Open the menu drawer (tap the menu icon).
  2. Tap Edit account next to your profile icon/image.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.

Deleting your account requires a recent sign-in. If prompted, enter your password or re-authenticate with Apple or Google.

By email

You can also request account deletion by email. Send a message to [email protected] with the subject line Account Deletion Request. Use the email address associated with your Cookara account. We will process your request and remove your data within 30 days.

Getting Started

  • How do I create or sign in to my account?Open Cookara and tap Sign in on the welcome screen, or tap the sign-in option in the menu drawer. You may also be prompted to sign in when accessing features that require an account. Choose from three sign-in methods: email and password, Google Sign-In, or Sign in with Apple. To register with email, enter your email address and create a password — a verification email will be sent to confirm your address.
  • How do I verify my email?After registering with an email address and password, Cookara sends a verification email to the address you provided. Open the email and tap the verification link to confirm your account. If you don't see the email, check your spam folder. You can request a new verification email from the sign-in screen.
  • I forgot my password. How do I restore access?Open the menu drawer, tap Edit account, and use the password reset option in your account settings. A reset link will be sent to your registered email address. Tap the link to set a new password. If you signed in with Google or Apple, you don't have a Cookara password — simply use the same sign-in method.

  • How do I delete my account? See Delete your account for in-app steps and email option.
  • What data is deleted vs retained temporarily?When you delete your account:
    Immediately removed: Your recipes, ingredients, planner entries, grocery lists, uploaded images, and PDF attachments are removed from active systems.
    Within 30 days: Account and authentication data is deleted or anonymised. Backup copies of your content are purged.
    Retained longer: Crash and diagnostic data (up to 90 days), analytics data (up to 14 months where enabled), and subscription/transaction records (up to 10 years for legal and tax compliance).

  • How long does account deletion take?When you delete your account in the app, your content is removed from active systems immediately. Account data and backup copies are fully deleted or anonymised within 30 days. If you request deletion by email, we will process your request and begin removal within 30 days.
  • I signed in with Apple/Google. Does deletion still remove my account?Yes. The account deletion process works the same way regardless of how you signed in (email, Google, or Apple). Deleting your Cookara account removes all your data from our systems as described above. Note that this only removes your Cookara account — it does not affect your Apple ID or Google account.

Billing & Subscription

  • How do I cancel my subscription on iOS or Android?In the app: open the menu drawer → tap the plan card (it shows your current plan) → tap Manage subscription. You’ll be taken to the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) subscription page for Cookara, where you can turn off auto‑renewal or cancel the subscription. Cancellation is handled entirely by Apple or Google.
  • What happens to premium access after I cancel?If you cancel your subscription, you keep access to your current paid plan until the end of the current billing period. After that, your account returns to the free version unless you renew again.
  • Do I lose my recipes or other data if I cancel my subscription?No. Any recipes and other data you have added or imported stay saved. If you revert to the free version, your content remains in your account.
  • What happens if I upgrade, downgrade, or change billing period?Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the next renewal date, so your current plan stays active until the current billing period ends. If you change billing period within the same tier, the change takes effect at renewal. For full details, see Subscription changes, upgrades, and downgrades.
  • Can I get a refund?Refunds are handled by Apple (iOS) or Google (Android). You can request a refund in the App Store or Google Play subscription or purchase history. We cannot process refunds directly.

Features & Usage

  • How do I add and manage recipes?You can add recipes in two ways:
    Manually: Tap the + button to create a new recipe. Fill in the name, ingredients, instructions, yield, and other details like cost and nutrition information.
    AI import: Use the AI-assisted import feature to extract a recipe from a photo, PDF, or text. The AI will suggest ingredient matches from your personal dictionary — review and adjust before saving.
    Your recipes are organised in a list where you can search, edit, or delete them. All recipes are private to your account.
  • How does the planner work?The meal planner lets you assign recipes to specific dates. Select a date and add recipes from your collection to plan your meals. You can view your planned meals in a list and easily rearrange or remove entries. Use the planner to organise your week and generate grocery lists from your planned meals.
  • How do I use the grocery list?You can build your grocery list in two ways:
    From planned meals: Generate a grocery list from your meal planner — ingredients from your planned recipes are automatically aggregated.
    Manually: Add custom items to the list at any time.
    Check off items as you shop. The grocery list stays synced across your devices when you're signed in.

Troubleshooting

  • App not syncing or data looks stale.Try these steps in order:
    1. Check your internet connection — sync requires an active connection.
    2. Pull to refresh — swipe down on the main screen to trigger a manual sync.
    3. Force close and reopen the app.
    4. Sign out and sign back in from the menu drawer.
    5. Clear the app cache — go to your device settings and clear Cookara’s cache.

  • I’m having login issues.Common fixes:
    Double-check your credentials — make sure you’re entering the correct email and password.
    Use the correct sign-in method — if you registered with Google or Apple, tap the matching sign-in button instead of entering an email/password.
    Reset your password — if you forgot it, use the reset option in your account settings.
    Check your internet connection — sign-in requires an active connection.
    Update the app — make sure you’re running the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.
