Acceptance of terms
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Cookara mobile application ("the App") and any related services provided through it ("the Service"). Together with our Privacy Policy, they form a legally binding agreement between you and the Owner.
Before using Cookara, you are required to review and explicitly accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. By checking the acceptance box or tapping the confirmation button during registration or onboarding, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you may not use the App.
Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years of age to create an account and use Cookara. By accepting these Terms, you confirm that you meet this age requirement.
If a higher minimum age is required by the laws of your country or jurisdiction, you must meet that requirement instead. We do not knowingly allow access to users who do not meet the applicable minimum age. For more details on how we handle data from minors, see the Children's Privacy section of our Privacy Policy.
Description of the service
Cookara is a mobile application available on iOS and Android that helps you manage recipes, plan meals, and organise groceries. Core features include:
- Recipe management — create, store, and organise recipes with ingredients, instructions, yield scaling, cost tracking, and nutrition information
- Meal planning — plan your meals using a calendar-based interface
- Grocery lists — generate shopping lists from planned recipes or add custom items
- AI-assisted recipe import — optionally import recipes from images, PDFs, or text using AI-powered extraction (see the AI-Assisted Features section)
- PDF attachments — attach PDF documents to recipes for personal reference
The Service is provided on a freemium basis: core features are available for free within certain usage limits, while additional features and higher limits are available through a paid subscription (see Subscriptions and Payments).
Cookara is designed for personal, non-commercial use. The App does not include social or community features — all content you create is private to your account and is not visible to other users.
An internet connection is required for account creation, sign-in, and data synchronisation. Once signed in, core functionality is available offline.
Account and registration
You can use Cookara's free tier without creating an account. However, to upgrade to a paid subscription, sync your data across devices, or access features that require authentication, you must register for an account.
You may create an account using an email address and password, Google Sign-In, or Sign in with Apple. When registering, you must provide accurate and complete information.
You are responsible for:
- Keeping your login credentials confidential and secure
- All activity that occurs under your account
- Notifying us promptly at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorised access to your account
We reserve the right to suspend or disable accounts that are found to be in violation of these Terms.
Account data is processed as described in our Privacy Policy. You may delete your account at any time from within the App.
Subscriptions and payments
Cookara offers the following subscription tiers:
- Free — core features with usage limits, no account required
- Pro (monthly) — full access to all features and higher usage limits
- Pro Yearly — same as Pro, billed annually at a discounted rate
Free trial
First-time subscribers receive a 7-day free trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription will automatically convert to a paid plan and you will be charged the applicable subscription fee. Apple and Google will notify you before your trial converts, in accordance with their store policies.
Billing and payments
All paid subscriptions are processed exclusively through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Cookara does not directly process payments or store your payment information. Pricing is displayed in the App and may vary by region as determined by the respective store.
Auto-renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly) unless you cancel before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device's subscription settings (Apple Settings or Google Play).
Price changes
Subscription prices are set and managed by the Apple App Store and Google Play Store and may change from time to time. Any price changes will be communicated through the respective store in accordance with their policies.
For existing subscribers, any price increase will apply only to renewals after at least 30 days' advance notice. You may cancel your subscription through your device's store settings before the new price takes effect, and the change will not apply if you cancel in time.
Refunds
Since payments are processed by Apple or Google, refund requests must be directed to the respective store. Cookara cannot issue refunds directly.
Your statutory rights as a consumer under applicable law are not affected by these terms.
EU right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer in the European Union, you normally have a 14-day right to withdraw from a contract for digital services. By starting your free trial or activating a paid subscription, you expressly request that we begin providing the Service immediately and you acknowledge that you will lose your right of withdrawal once the Service has been fully performed. For a digital service delivered continuously (such as Cookara), full performance occurs progressively as you use the App. This clause does not affect any mandatory statutory rights you have under your local consumer law.
Subscription changes, upgrades, and downgrades
General subscription management
All in-app subscriptions are managed directly by the platform provider through which the original purchase was made (Apple App Store or Google Play Store). We cannot manually modify, pause, or cancel your subscription for you.
Important: Deleting the App from your device or deleting your Cookara account does not cancel an active subscription. You must cancel your subscription through your device's subscription settings.
How to cancel
- iOS: Open Settings > tap your name > Subscriptions > Cookara > Cancel
- Android: Open Google Play > Menu > Subscriptions > Cookara > Cancel
Plan changes, upgrades, and downgrades
- Upgrades: If you upgrade to a higher-tier plan, the change takes effect immediately. Billing adjustments, if any, are handled by the store provider.
- Downgrades: If you downgrade to a lower-tier plan, the change takes effect at the next renewal date. You keep access to your current higher-tier plan until the current billing period ends.
- Changes to billing period (for example monthly to yearly): If you switch between plans of the same tier but different durations, the change takes effect at your next renewal date.
Downgrading to the free tier
When downgrading from a paid plan to the free tier, you retain full access to view your existing recipes, ingredients, and PDF attachments. However, if your content exceeds the free tier limits, certain functionality (such as serving recalculation) will be restricted until your content is within the current tier's limits. You may restore full functionality by removing items that exceed the limit or by re-subscribing to a paid plan.
The authoritative billing timeline, renewal date, and subscription status are always shown in your store subscription screen.
Feature availability and changes
Cookara is under active development. We may add new features, modify existing ones, or discontinue certain features at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you of significant changes within the App.
Usage limits
Both the free tier and paid tiers are subject to usage limits (for example, the number of recipes, AI imports per month, or storage allowances). Specific limits for your current tier are displayed within the App. We reserve the right to adjust these limits from time to time with reasonable notice.
"Unlimited" plan entitlements. Where the App or paywall describes paid-tier entitlements such as recipes, ingredients, meal plans, or tiered cake designs as "Unlimited", this means there is no practical limit for normal personal use. For technical and anti-abuse reasons we apply a very high upper bound (currently 99,999 items per category per account). This ceiling exists solely to prevent automated abuse and does not affect legitimate personal use. We may adjust this ceiling with reasonable notice if necessary to protect the Service.
Feature changes
If a feature you use is significantly changed or discontinued, we will provide notice within the App. If you have an active paid subscription and a material feature is removed, you may cancel your subscription through your device's store settings.
Availability
We aim to keep Cookara available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control.
Your content
Ownership
You retain full ownership of all content you create in Cookara, including recipes, ingredients, planner entries, grocery lists, uploaded images, and PDF attachments. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your content.
License to us
By using the Service, you grant Cookara a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, synchronise, and display your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. This license terminates when you delete your content or your account.
Privacy of your content
Your content is private to your account. It is not shared with other users, made publicly accessible, or used for any purpose other than providing the Service to you.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for the content you create and upload. You must ensure that you have the right to use any material you add to Cookara (for example, recipes sourced from copyrighted publications should be for your personal reference only).
Deletion
You may delete individual items or your entire account at any time from within the App. When content or an account is deleted, it is removed from active systems immediately. Backup copies are purged within 30 days. For full details on data retention, see our Privacy Policy.
Intellectual property
The Cookara name, logo, visual design, and all associated branding are the intellectual property of Pavlo Stepura and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
The App's source code, user interface, and underlying technology are proprietary. You may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse engineer, decompile, or create derivative works based on the App or any part of it.
Your use of Cookara grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms. This license does not grant you any rights in our intellectual property beyond what is necessary to use the App as intended.
AI-assisted features
Cookara offers an optional AI-assisted recipe import feature that allows you to extract structured recipe data from images, PDFs, or text. When you use this feature, the App processes your submitted document to extract recipe information (ingredients, instructions, yield) and matches extracted ingredient names against your personal ingredient dictionary.
Opt-in
The AI import feature is entirely optional. It is only activated when you explicitly choose to use it. If you do not use AI import, no data is sent to the AI service.
Accuracy
AI-generated results are provided as suggestions only. The extracted recipe data, ingredient matches, and any associated information may contain errors, inaccuracies, or omissions. You should always review and verify AI-extracted content before saving or relying on it.
No guarantees
We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any AI-generated content. The AI feature is a tool to assist you — it does not replace your judgement.
Data handling
Documents submitted for AI import are processed in real time and are not retained after processing. Your data is not used to train or improve AI models. For full details, see the AI-Assisted Recipe Import section of our Privacy Policy.
Usage limits
AI import usage is subject to monthly limits based on your subscription tier. Current limits are displayed within the App.
Health and nutrition disclaimer
Cookara may display nutritional information, calorie estimates, allergen indicators, and cost estimates for recipes based on the ingredient data you provide.
For informational purposes only
All nutritional values, calorie counts, and related data displayed in Cookara are estimates provided for general informational purposes. They should not be considered medical, dietary, or professional nutritional advice.
Accuracy limitations
Nutritional estimates are calculated based on ingredient data and may not be accurate for your specific ingredients, preparation methods, portion sizes, or regional product variations. Recipe scaling calculations are mathematical estimates — always verify results, especially for baking.
Allergens and dietary restrictions
If you have food allergies, intolerances, or dietary restrictions, you are solely responsible for verifying that recipes and ingredients are safe for you. Cookara does not guarantee the absence of allergens in any recipe.
Not a substitute for professional advice
Cookara is not a substitute for advice from a qualified healthcare professional, dietitian, or nutritionist. We are not responsible for any adverse health effects resulting from reliance on information displayed in the App.
Acceptable use
You agree to use Cookara only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You must not:
- Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorised purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, other users' accounts, or our infrastructure
- Interfere with, disrupt, or place an unreasonable burden on the Service or its servers
- Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract the source code of the App
- Use automated tools, bots, or scrapers to access or interact with the Service
- Abuse the AI import feature (for example, submitting excessive automated requests)
- Attempt to circumvent subscription restrictions, feature limits, or security measures
- Use the Service to distribute malware, harmful content, or any material that infringes the rights of others
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit any part of the Service
Violation of these rules may result in suspension or termination of your account at our discretion.
Abuse of the Service
Any account that, in our reasonable assessment, is used to abuse any Cookara service — including but not limited to circumventing usage limits, automated scraping, exploiting the AI import feature, attempting to manipulate subscription entitlements, interfering with the Service's infrastructure, or other conduct listed above — may be permanently blocked without prior notice. A permanent block ends your right to use the Service and prevents you from creating new accounts tied to the same identifiers. Refunds, if any, are governed by the Apple App Store or Google Play refund policies and applicable law. We reserve the right to refuse service to offenders at our sole discretion, subject to applicable law and your mandatory statutory rights.
Appeal. If you believe your account was blocked in error, you may appeal by contacting [email protected] within 30 days of the block. We will review your appeal and respond within a reasonable time, typically no later than 30 days from receipt.
Third-party services
Cookara relies on third-party services to provide its functionality, including cloud infrastructure, authentication, data storage, subscription management, and payment processing. These services are operated by independent providers and have their own terms of service and privacy policies.
We are not responsible for the availability, performance, or practices of third-party services. Your use of the Apple App Store or Google Play Store is governed by the respective platform's terms.
For details on which third-party services process your data and how, see our Privacy Policy.
Apple and Google platform terms
These Terms are concluded between you and the Owner, not with Apple Inc. or Google LLC. Apple and Google are not responsible for the App or its content, and they provide no warranties in respect of the App. To the extent any provision of these Terms conflicts with the applicable Apple App Store or Google Play terms, the platform terms prevail for matters of distribution, in-app purchases, and payment. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance, will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Disclaimer of warranties
Cookara is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the extent permitted by applicable law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of defects, or that any data, calculations, nutritional information, or AI-generated content will be accurate or reliable.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Pavlo Stepura shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you have paid for Cookara subscriptions in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred euros (€100).
Exceptions
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for: (a) death or personal injury caused by negligence; (b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or (c) any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
Your statutory rights
If you are a consumer in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have statutory rights under applicable consumer protection laws. Nothing in these Terms affects those rights.
In particular, if the paid Service does not conform with the contract, you may have rights to repair, replacement, a proportional price reduction, or termination under Articles 43h–43q of the Polish Consumer Rights Act (or equivalent provisions implementing EU Directive 2019/770 on digital content and digital services in your country). We will make commercially reasonable efforts to remedy non-conformities within a reasonable time after you notify us at [email protected].
Termination
By you
You may stop using Cookara at any time. You may delete your account from within the App. Please remember that deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription — you must cancel your subscription separately through your device's subscription settings (see Subscription Changes).
By us
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you breach these Terms, engage in prohibited conduct, or if required by law. Where reasonably possible, we will notify you before or at the time of suspension or termination.
Effect of termination
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends. Your data will be handled as described in our Privacy Policy — content is removed from active systems upon account deletion, and backup copies are purged within 30 days.
Surviving provisions
The sections on Intellectual Property, Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability, Dispute Resolution, and any other provisions that by their nature should survive, will remain in effect after termination.
Dispute resolution
Informal resolution
If you have a concern or dispute regarding the Service, please contact us first at [email protected]. We will make good-faith efforts to resolve the matter informally and will respond to consumer complaints within 30 days of receipt, in accordance with Polish consumer law.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Poland, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If you are a consumer in the European Union or European Economic Area, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection afforded by the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of habitual residence that cannot be derogated from by agreement (Regulation (EC) No 593/2008, "Rome I").
Jurisdiction
The following jurisdiction clause applies only to business (non-consumer) users: any disputes arising from or related to these Terms or the Service shall be submitted to the competent courts of Warsaw, Poland.
Consumers resident in the European Union or European Economic Area may bring proceedings in the courts of their country of habitual residence, and may only be sued in those courts, in accordance with Regulation (EU) No 1215/2012 ("Brussels I recast").
EU consumer rights
If you are a consumer residing in the European Union, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence. You benefit from any mandatory provisions of consumer protection law in your country of residence that cannot be overridden by these Terms.
Consumer complaints
If you are a consumer in the European Union and we cannot resolve your complaint informally, you may contact your national consumer protection authority or a competent alternative dispute resolution (ADR) body in your country of residence. (The European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform was discontinued on 20 July 2025.)
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Latest update" date on this page and, where appropriate, through a notice within the App.
We will provide reasonable advance notice of material changes. Continued use of Cookara after the updated Terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of the changes. If you do not agree with the updated Terms, you should stop using the Service and may delete your account.
If you are a consumer and the updated Terms would materially affect your rights or obligations, you may cancel your paid subscription through your device's store settings before the new Terms take effect. In that case, the new Terms will not apply to you, and your subscription will continue under the previous Terms until the end of your current billing period.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable by a competent court, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. The invalid provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable while preserving its original intent.
General
Entire agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the Owner regarding the Service and supersede any prior communications or understandings.
No waiver
Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms is not a waiver of that right or provision.
Assignment
You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your rights under them without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms to a successor entity (for example, in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets) on reasonable notice.
Language
The English version of these Terms is the authoritative version. Any translations are provided for convenience only; in case of conflict, the English version prevails.
