Building a tier from parts
Sponge, filling, soak and cover as separate recipes, with the density worked out for you.

Describing what is inside
A 20 cm tier, 10 cm high: four classic sponges, three layers of mascarpone with a ribbon of confit, a light soak, ganache under fondant. Say that and the builder draws it. The fillings take the thickness you give them. The sponges share what is left, and the builder warns the moment they get too thin.
- Eight sponge types, two to six layers
- Creams mixed in one filling layer
- Inserts such as confit, crunch or fruit
- Soak from none to heavy
- Cover from naked to fondant
What the builder gives back
Ask how much ganache a 20 cm tier takes and the cover row already says. The result is a weight, the portions it makes and a density. Each part is weighed apart: the batter alone, the syrup it drinks, the fillings and the cover. A density outside the usual range gets a warning.
- Weight, portions and density live
- Batter, syrup, fillings and cover weighed apart
- A drawing that matches the numbers
Your recipes as the parts
The presets are averages. Your sponge is not. Give the sponge or the cover one of your recipes, and its density takes over. The preset keeps the look. A filling layer takes your recipes as its components: the first replaces the preset creams, the next ones join the mix. The soak takes a syrup recipe for its cost alone.
- One recipe each for sponge and cover
- Any number of recipes in a filling
- A syrup recipe for the soak
- Missing weight or density asked on the spot
- Preset kept if a recipe is deleted
What Done changes
Press Done and the build becomes the tier’s source. Density, weight and cost come from these layers, and a recipe attached to the tier itself is let go. Each part with a recipe is priced by its own volume. A planned cake mixes every recipe as one batch across the tiers, and lists the tins to bake.
- The build becomes the tier’s source
- Each part priced by its own volume
- One batch per recipe across the tiers
- Free to try, results blurred until Pro
Not in the app
Three things the builder does not do:
- Two sponge types in one tier
- Nutrition or allergens for the tier
- Baking time or temperature
Common questions
Can I use the builder for free?
Yes. Every control and the drawing work. Weight, portions and density stay blurred, and Done goes through Pro.
Do my saved plans change when the presets are updated?
No. A plan or order keeps the tier’s weight and density as saved. The builder opened from there shows those numbers.
