Importing with AI
A recipe from a PDF, photos or pasted text, checked before it is saved.

Three ways in
A photo of a handwritten card, two pages of a pastry course PDF, a recipe a friend sent in a chat: each becomes an editable recipe. From a PDF you pick the pages that matter. Several photos go in as one recipe. Text is pasted as it is. The import takes a moment and can be cancelled while it runs.
- A PDF, with the pages you choose
- Photos, several for one recipe
- Text, pasted from a message or a website
Matched against your library
The import reads the page, then looks for each ingredient among yours. “Plain flour” lands on the flour you already price, so the new recipe has a cost the moment it is saved. Each line is marked as an exact match, a possible match or a new ingredient. Before saving, you see how many new ingredients you are about to create.
- Exact match to your ingredient
- Possible match to check
- New ingredient to be created
What survives the import
The recipe opens in the editor for review. The original stays a tap away in the lower half of the screen. A line the source never measured, such as salt to taste, comes through without an amount. “Warm water” lands on your water, with warm kept as a qualifier. Save, and the PDF you imported from stays attached to the recipe.
How many imports a month
Every tier has a monthly allowance of AI imports. It is shown when you open the add-recipe sheet, and Pro raises it. An import counts once it comes back with a recipe. One that fails does not count. Too much content for one request is refused, not counted. The same allowance covers reading prices from a receipt in the ingredient library.
Not in the app
Two things the import does not do:
- Import from a web link; copy and paste the text instead
- Keep the source photos; only a PDF stays attached
Common questions
Will an import change the ingredients already in my library?
No. It links the recipe to them and changes nothing. A name it cannot match becomes a new ingredient, and you see how many before you save.
