What a cake is made of

A client wants a three-tier wedding cake for sixty. Start with one tier and add the next. It steps down from the last, and the drawing redraws as you type. Each tier has its own shape, width and height. A styrofoam tier is marked as a dummy and left out of every number. The board follows the bottom tier.

  • Up to six tiers, each its own shape
  • Round, square, rectangular or oval
  • Flat, isometric or photographic view
  • Centimetres or inches

Where a tier’s weight comes from

Light sponge weighs half what dense chocolate does at the same size, so the density is yours to choose. Build the tier from sponge, filling, soak and cover, and it is worked out. Attach your own recipe, and it follows the cake you bake. Or pick a cake type on the scale. Type a weight and the tier resizes to reach it.

  • Built layer by layer in the tier builder
  • Density from your own recipe
  • A named cake type on the scale
  • Weight typed, size solved

Servings, slices and dowels

Sixty guests at a wedding need less cake than sixty at a dessert table. Servings are the total weight divided by the portion you set. That is around 100 g a head for a wedding, 170 for a birthday, 200 for dessert. Each tier has its own sheet with the cut lines and the dowels it needs to carry what sits above.

  • Portion size set per cake
  • Cut diagram per tier
  • Support dowels counted and placed
  • Tier sets applied with one tap
  • A height range suggested per width

Saving, and using the cake

Save the design without a name and it is called by its sizes. Pick it into a plan, an order line or a product variant and you get a fresh copy. Shrinking it for one client never touches the saved cake. The recipes tile lists what the cake needs, one row per recipe or tier by tier.

  • A name made from the sizes
  • A copy into plans, orders and products
  • Recipe amounts combined or tier by tier
  • Cakes listed on the recipe they use
  • Synced across your devices

Not in the app

Three things the designer does not do:

  • Sculpted or number-shaped tiers
  • Decoration on the drawing
  • A picture of the cake to send the client

Common questions

Is the designer free?

Yes. Tiers, servings, dowels and saved cakes are free. Only the tier builder’s results need Pro.

Does the cake follow a recipe I change later?

Yes. A tier keeps its recipe’s name and density up to date, and a deleted recipe is flagged on the tier so you can detach it.
